Avoiding the Summer Slump!

Each day Kelsie and Kyle are required to do a small amount of schoolwork.  Yes, I’m a mean Mommy!  But, they honestly haven’t fought me about it… YET!  I made them each  “Summer Workbooks”.

They have to do handwriting, spelling/sight words, Kelsie’s learning about the 50 States, Math and Journaling.  Last week they actually asked if they could do a math activity!  We had 4 dice laying around, so I had each of them roll two of the dice and Kyle had to add the numbers together, Kelsie had to multiply them.  They loved it!

Kelsie’s 1st Swim Meet of 2012

Kelsie swam in her first swim meet of the year this past Thursday.  She swam in 5 of the 100+ events (in other words, she swam for 4 minutes in a 2 1/2 hour meet!!).  Meet nights are long nights, but Kelsie seems to enjoy it.  A professional photographer has a son on Kelsie’s team, so she’s at every meet taking beautiful pictures.  Kelsie said, “I saw Ms. Paula taking pictures of me, so I made sure I smiled.”  She was supposed to be swimming, not looking at the camera!

The parents have to take turns helping out at the meets – timing, working the concession stand, entering times, etc…  I was timing at this meet and each time Kelsie got out of the pool, she made sure she gave me a big hug… not to be a sweet daughter… to get me all wet.

On each Monday after the meets, the team is awarded their ribbons.  Kelsie did pretty good, earning 4 ribbons.

In the Kitchen with Kelsie and Kyle

I promised the kids that, while on summer vacation, we’d cook some things (junk food) that they liked.  First up… Cake Batter Rice Krispie Treats.  They’re just like regular Rice Krispie Treats only with a little yellow cake mix and sprinkles!

They were delish!!  Here’s how you can make your own:

Cake Batter Rice Krispie Treats
3 Tablespoons butter
1 (10 ounce) bag marshmallows
1/4 cup yellow cake mix (just the dry mix, not prepared into a batter)
6 cups crispy rice cereal
1 (1.75 ounce) container of sprinkles
Directions: Melt butter in a large saucepan over low heat. Add marshmallows. Stir until they begin to melt. One tablespoon at a time, stir in dry cake mix. Mix well to incorporate. Once cake mix is all mixed in and marshmallows are melted, remove from heat. Stir in cereal so it is completely coated in marshmallow mixture. Press into a greased 9x13 baking pan. Let stand for at least 30 minutes before cutting. Enjoy!

A Boy And His Boogie Board

Last year Kyle would go into the ocean up to his knees.  This year, we couldn’t get him out!  We bought him a boogie board when we got there.  He had the best time!

Myrtle Beach Fun!

We had a blast at the beach!  We decided to let the kids plan the trip and what we were going to do each day… beach, pool, lazy river, mini golfing, go-karts and ice cream!

Happy Father’s Day!

We celebrated Father’s Day in Myrtle Beach this past weekend.  The kids got Dave a baseball glove and made him a “A Book All About The Best Dad In The World”.  We had fun working on this book…

we went to ride go-karts!

This was Kyle’s first time driving.  He looked like he was ready to kill someone!
